VEHICLE SUPPORTED WINCH A B S T R A C T The invention is concerned with an improvement in a vehicle supported winch which comprises a supported rotatable drum for receiving a cable. Such a winch further includes means for selectively transmitting rotary motion to the drum having a normally disengaged input clutch, a normally engaged brake for stopping rotation of the transmitting means and a normally disengaged disconnect clutch and wherein the application of fluid pressure drivingly engages normally disengaged members and drivingly disengages normally engaged members. The winch further includes a source of pressurized fluid. Also part of the winch are means communicating with the fluid source and each of the input clutch, the brake and the disconnect clutch for selectively controlling application of fluid pressure thereto. The communicating means provide a BraKe-On position at which the input clutch, the brake and the disconnect clutch are not pressurized, a Reel-In position at which only the input clutch is pressurized and a Brake-Off position at which only the brake is pressurized. The improvement of the invention comprises using as the fluid source a pump in combination with an accumulator communicating therewith for stoning fluid pressure produced by the pump when it functions and for supplying fluid pressure when functioning of the pump is retarded. Usually in accordance with the invention, the pump is driven by a transmission of the vehicle and functioning of the pump is retarded as the transmission stalls.
