The invention relates to vehicle suspension systems particularly of the type employing airbags. Vehicle suspension systems are subjected to forces vertically, laterally and longitudinally that can alter the axle position and cause axle movement such as roll, yaw and wind-up. Hitherto, suspension systems have incorporated components to react to the forces that can be applied, but such components add to weight and complexity. US Patent 6,527,286 has disclosures aimed at lessening those problems mentioned above, and the object of the present invention is to improve on the construction disclosed in US Patent 6,527,286, an objection met by a construction comprising at least one suspension airbag interposed between a vehicle axle and a vehicle body and a supplementary airbag positioned on a fixed support in the suspension system and extending to a structural member of the suspension system, the arrangement being such that with the suspension airbag inflated and the supplementary airbag deflated, the suspension system operates normally, and with the suspension airbag deflated and the supplementary airbag inflated, the suspension system is lifted with a consequent lifting of the axle, to bring its road wheels clear of the road surface.
