A theft prevention system for an automobile having a starter motor solenoid, an ignition circuit, an electrically operated fuel control device and a battery, includes a first relay switchable between a normal operating position and a second position and connected to the starter motor solenoid and to the ignition circuit. There is also an activating switch connected to the battery and to the first relay and switchable between on and off positions. In the off position, the first relay moves to a second position at which the automobile will not start because the ignition circuit is disconnected from the starter motor solenoid. Preferably, a second relay is switchable between an operating position and another position and is normally connected to the fuel control device and to the ignition circuit. There is a mechanism for disconnecting the second relay from the ignition circuit so as to cause the relay to move to said another position, thereby preventing the fuel control device from causing fuel to flow to the engine.
