ABSTRACT This invention relates to means for identifying different vehicles. For example, it may be desired to effect in a clandestine manner a vehicle count which also differentiates between wheeled vehicles and tracked vehicles. According to the invention, seismic detecting means are used to convert seismic signals generated by the wheels or tracks of the passing vehicles into electrical signals. Amplifying and clipping means convert these signals into rectangular waves. These waves are acted upon by differentiating and integrating means. Voltage levels so produced provide the desired indication of the tread characteristics of passing vehicles.
