VELOCITY SENSITIVE AIR DEFLECTOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An air speed sensitive variable pitch air de- flector comprising an airfoil pivotally mounted on a vehicle roof adjacent the upper edge of a tailgate window. The variable deflector, as does a conventional fixed air deflector, assists in tailgate window cleaning below a predetermined vehicle speed, but also has the capability of being able to change pitch above the predetermined speed so that fuel economy degradation which would result from the braking effect of the fixed air deflector can be avoided.
