The invention relates to a veneer edging strip comprising a veneer sheet with a flexible backing sheet attached to a rear face of the veneer sheet to allow flexing of the veneer sheet without cracking. A process for manufacturing the veneer edging strip is also described in which veneer sheets are cut by guillotine (12) into strips which are joined end to end in joining apparatus (16) to form a veneer web. Adhesive is applied to a rear face of the web. A flexible backing sheet is then overlaid and bonded to the rear face of the web in a backing sheet applicator (25), the backing sheet and web being pressed together to secure the backing sheet to the web to form the flexible veneer edging strip. A front face of the web of flexible veneer edging strip is then sanded at a sanding station (45) and the web is then wound onto reels (50) and packaged.
