ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The veneer lathe comprises a cutting or peeling cross-slide and an anti-buckling device both of which are pressed by actuating means against the peeler log held between the machine's rotating end chucks, said cutting slide and anti-buckling device both being guided in translation relative to the stationary frame of the machine along converging planes forming an upwardly opening obtuse angle of substantially 120° between them. The improvements provided by the invention specifically consist in that the plane bisecting the working planes of the cutting slide and the anti-buckling slide and intersecting the rotational axis of the machine is substantially vertical.
