A ventilation apparatus is provided for ventilating medical gases and the like from the vicinity of the face of a patient. The apparatus generally comprises a flexible envelope having breathable surface portions for collecting gases therethrough into a hollow interior of the envelope. A suction port coupled to the envelope collects the gases from the hollow interior for removal by a suction device. The use of a flexible envelope having breathable surface portions permits the apparatus to be readily applied to a patient by simply placing the apparatus under the head of the patient like a pillow.
