ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lead storage battery contains predetermined breaking points in its housing wall above electrolyte level, said predeter- mined breaking points being destroyed when a specific internal pressure is exceeded. The predetermined breaking points preferably consist of surface portions of the housing lid which are surrounded with lines of material of reduced strength. To obtain the smoothest possible outer surface of the storage battery the lines are formed as recesses in the material on the inside of the housing. The battery confines possible explosion therein to restricted limits defined by the lines of material of reduced strength.
