A terminal adapter, along with a value added network, is disclosed that interworks a plurality of terminals with a processing host to accomplish transaction processing. The terminals can use different protocols and typically incorporate card readers for completing financial or other types of transactions typically involving credit, debit, ATM or similar cards. The terminal adapter provides reliable and secure communication using a network based in part on the Internet as a primary form of communication. The terminal adapter also provides a secondary communication path in the event of a failure of the primary communication path, as well as automatic recognition of different terminal protocols, various security functions, error detection, and other network administration functions to ensure a flexible system and efficient transaction processing system.
Cette invention concerne un adaptateur de terminal ainsi qu'un réseau à valeur ajoutée qui assurent un interfonctionnement entre une pluralité de terminaux et un hôte de traitement pour le traitement de transactions. Les terminaux peuvent utiliser des protocoles différents et intègrent généralement des lecteurs de cartes pour l'exécution de transactions financières et autres faisant intervenir le plus souvent des cartes de crédit, de débit, ATM ou analogues. L'adaptateur de terminal assure une communication fiable et sécurisée au moyen d'une réseau basé en partie sur Internet en tant que forme primaire de communication. L'adaptateur de terminal fournit également une voie secondaire de communication pour le cas d'une défaillance de la voie de communication primaire, ainsi qu'une reconnaissance automatique de différents protocoles de terminal, diverses fonctions de sécurité, la détection d'erreurs et autres fonctions de gestion de réseau de manière à garantir une système souple et efficace de traitement des transactions.
