2070987 9204542 PCTABS00011 An apparatus for generating electric power from wind includes a base (11), a pair of upstanding, generally parallel, spaced apart walls (27, 28) rotatably mounted on the base and defining an inlet end (53) and an outlet end (54) for wind, an electric power generator (16) mounted on the base and having an input shaft (17), and a vertical axis cylindrical rotor (47) having a plurality of wind driven vanes (50) and mounted on the base between the walls, and having an output shaft (23) coupled to rotate the input shaft. A curved inner modulator (66) is rotatably mounted on the base inside the rotor and is selectively movable for controlling wind flow through the rotor. An inlet modulator (63) is rotatably mounted on the base at the inlet end and is selectively movable for controlling wind flow to the rotor. A first generally planar director (59) is pivotally mounted on an outer surface of one of the walls and a second generally planar director (56) is pivotally mounted on an inner surface of the other one of the walls and both directors are responsive to the wind for positioning the inlet end toward the wind.

Un dispositif de modulation interne (66) curviligne monté en rotation sur la base à l'intérieur du rotor se déplace pour moduler l'écoulement du vent à travers le rotor. Un modulateur d'entrée (63) monté en rotation du côté entrée de la base se déplace pour moduler l'écoulement du vent vers le rotor. Un premier dispositif de gouverne (59) de forme généralement plane est monté en pivotement sur une surface extérieure de l'une des parois et un deuxième dispositif de gouverne de forme généralement plane (56) est monté sur une surface intérieure de l'autre paroi; les deux dispositifs de gouverne utilisent l'énergie du vent pour positionner le côté entrée dans le sens de l'écoulement du vent.
