63293-2499 A B S T R A C T Gas/liquid contacting column 1 with a plurality of horizontal trays 3 arranged one above the other in the column, each tray having a plurality of apertures 4 for ascending gas and at least one downcomer 5 for descending liquid, the downcomer being open at its upper end and extending partly below the tray, the lower end of the downcomer being provided with liquid discharge openings 7, wherein each downcomer is provided with a gas passage 9 having a plurality of gas entries arranged at different levels in the lower part of the downcomer 5 and having a gas outlet arranged above the upper end of the downcomer.
