VERTICAL REACH SWITCH ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A vertical reach switch has an elongated switch blade pivotally mounted at one end of an elongated support casting on a horizontal axis. The opposite end of the switch blade has a contact which engages an overhead jaw contact. The switch blade is rotatable about its own axis such that, as the blade enters the jaw contact, it rotates about its axis in order to provide contact pressure within the jaw contact. A crank type operating mechanism is provided for operating the switch wherein the crank operating mechanism has a crank arm rotatable about a vertical axis. The axis of rotation of the crank arm is displaced from the axis of rotation of the blade when the blade is in a vertical position to improve the control of the position of the blade as it reaches the overhead jaw contact. when the switch blade is opened, it is horizontal, and overlies the length of the support casting.
