A b s t r a c t The invention relates to a vertically adjustable emergency support for the bodies of rail vehicles. Due to wear of the wheel tyres, the bogie frame 2 and the car body 1 supported on it tend to descend. In the case of emergency supports in the region of the center pivot 5 where access is difficult, it is proposed in order to compensate for this drop to connect the striker plate 4 which faces an emergency spring 3 at a distance "w" to a box 6 under- neath which is vertically guided by means of guiding elements 7 on sliding-contact surfaces 8 of a cut-out in the bogie frame 2. If the distance "w" increases due to wear of the wheel tyres, an adjustment has to be made in a manner that the box 6 is raised by means of a plate 18 connected to the center pivot 5. Plates 21 of a thick- ness which compensates the wear are inserted between the box 6 and abutments 20a,20b which are connected to the bogie frame 2. After securing the plates 21 by means of bolts 22, the car body 2 is lowered again whereupon the distance "w" is restored (Fig. 1).
