ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A vertically adjustable support for supporting and raising or lowering heavy structural loads, particularly bridge structures which comprises: a thick elastomeric plate disposed on the bottom of a steel chamber or container, a vertically movable cover plate laid on the elastomeric plate within the walls of the chamber, the cover plate being adapted to a flexible transfer of the superimposed load through the elastomeric plate onto the chamber bottom and provided with a circumferential sealing means for sealing the circumferential gap between the cover plate and the chamber walls, the support being adapted to receive an amount of a pressure medium which is forced in via a pressure conduit extending through the chamber bottom, to push back the elastomeric plate locally and to expand the volume of the all-round enclosed pressure chamber consisting of the chamber bottom, the cover plate and the chamber walls and thus to raise the loaded cover plate, wherein a separating sheet (5) extending in a plane parallel to the chamber bottom (2) is embedded in the elastomeric plate (4) that rests on the bottom (2) and fills out completely the all-round enclosed pressure chamber (14), the outer border of the sheet (5) being disposed at a certain distance (15) from the chamber walls (3), wherein the sheet (5) has an opening (16) at least at one place, the opening being connected to a pressure medium conduit (12) that extends through the chamber bottom (2).
