A bipolar electrosurgical instrument for clamping, grasping, manupulating, and sealing tissue includes first and second shafts each having jaw member extending from a distal end thereof and a handle disposed at a proximal end thereof. The handle being operable to effect movement of the jaw members relative to one another from a first position wherein the jaw members are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the jaw members cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween. The bipolar instrument is connectable to a source of electrical energy having a first electrical potential connected to one of the jaw members and a second electrical potential connected to the other of the jaw members such that the jaw members are capable of selectively conducting energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a seal. Both the first and second electrical potentials are transmitted to the jaw members through the first shaft.
L'invention concerne un instrument électrochirurgical bipolaire conçu pour pincer, saisir, manipuler et suturer des tissus, qui comporte un premier et un second arbres, chacun ayant un élément de mâchoire s'étendant de son extrémité distale et une poignée placée à son extrémité proximale. La poignée permet de déplacer les éléments de mâchoires l'un par rapport l'autre d'une première position où les éléments de mâchoires sont à distance l'un de l'autre, vers une seconde position où lesdits éléments coopèrent pour saisit le tissu entre eux. L'instrument bipolaire peut être relié à une source d'alimentation électrique ayant un premier potentiel électrique raccordé à l'un des éléments de mâchoires, et un second potentiel électrique relié à l'autre élément de mâchoires, lesdits éléments étant alors capables de conduire de manière sélective l'énergie à travers le tissu maintenu entre eux pour réaliser une suture. Les deux potentiels électriques sont transmis aux éléments de mâchoires par le biais du premier arbre.
