A vial adapter serves to accommodate smaller vials in larger openings of the carousel of an autosamper. The adapter is sleeve-shaped and has an outer diameter fitting the opening of the 5carousel, and a smaller inner diameter to snuggly accommodate the vial. A conical aperture at the top wall of the adapter serves to guide the needle of the autosampler into a septum of the vial, thus reducing the possibility of damage to the needle.
