ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mounting structure is disclosed in which a shift lever retainer for spherically supporting a shift level is mounted through a vibration dampling member to a transmission case by a bolt. The structure includes a vibration damping structure comprising stopper means for preventing horizontal and vertical deformations of the vibration damping member greater than a predetermined amount. This arrangement avoids the possibility of a decrease in the rigid feeling in operating the shift lever, that is, deterioration of shift feeling is avoided. Furthermore, vibration of the shift lever and associated noise can be greatly reduced.
