A method of and apparatus for damping vibration such as sound in a vibration generating device such as an appliance (10). A constraining layer (12) and an adhering layer (13) are provided. The adhering layer (13) including a viscosity enhancing material (21) such as a cellulose fiber, and an adhesive material (22). The constraining layer (12) is adhered to a surface (11) of a device with the adhering layer (13).
