A vibrato assembly (20) for stringed instruments makes slight and rapid changes in the pitch of the tone produced by stringed instrument. Previously known vibrato assemblies use knife-edge hinges or rolling ball bearings to produce these variations. The vibrato assemblies (20) described herein use flexure bearings (32) to produce variations in the tension of the strings and thereby the pitch of the tones. These flexure bearing (32) vibrato assemblies (20) have the advantages of high strength, zero operational noise and tumble, and virtually zero friction and hysteresis. Additionally, flexure bearing (32) vibrato assemblies (20) provide a robust path between the instrument and the strings resulting in improved tonal quality, range, and sustain.
Dispositif de vibrato (20) produisant des changements légers et rapides de la hauteur des sons d'un instrument à cordes. Les dispositifs antérieurs utilisaient à cet effet des articulations à couteaux ou des supports sur roulements à billes. Le susdit dispositif utilise quant à lui des supports à ressorts (32) engendrant des variations de tension des cordes et donc de hauteur des sons. Ledit dispositif de vibrato (20) se caractérise par sa solidité, l'absence de bruit et de ronflement en fonctionnement et une quasi absence de frottement et d'hystérèse. Il constitue en outre un élément intermédiaire robuste entre l'instrument et les cordes d'où une amélioration de la qualité, de l'étendue et de la constance du son.
