Abstract A vibrator (1), which is attached to a vehicle, to produce seismic vibrations is specified, which vibrator has a base plate (7) and a reaction mass (27), which together can be lowered relative to the vehicle by means of a lifting device and pressed onto the ground. The lifting device has a piston-cylinder unit (4) which is arranged between a chassis part of the vibrator and a vehicle part. Provision is made according to the inven- tion for the vibrator to be raisable or lowerable by means of two lifting devices which are arranged at the side of the reaction mass (27) and are connected to the support plate of the vibrator, the piston-cylinder units (4) of the lifting devices being attached to the vehicle part by means of a belt-type bearing (19) or via pendulum support bearings (33) in order to allow swiveling of the base plate in adaptation to uneven ground. Provision can furthermore be made for the connection between the piston rod (17) of the lifting device and the support plate (18) of the vibrator also to be of tiltable construction. The invention allows cost-effective manufacture, good adapta- tion to uneven ground conditions and increased safety against damage to the apparatus. (Figure 1)
