ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tape cassette dust door and dust door latch are biased, in a first embodiment, via a torsion spring including a coil, a short leg and a long leg, having an offset, extending therefrom. The short leg and coil fit onto a polar member on the door and the long leg extends therefrom. The offset is received in a groove in the cover and a free end of the long leg abuts a projection formed on the latch. In an alternate embodiment, the latch includes a flexing member which allows a second lower portion of the latch to flex relative to a first upper portion, and a leaf spring integrally formed at the first upper portion. The dust door polar member has a cam lobe which cooperates with the leaf spring. In the first embodiment, when the dust door latch is actuated by the tape player/recorder, the dust door is unlatched and rotated to the open position, thereby loading the long leg of the torsion spring. When the pin is released, the free end of the long leg biases the latch back into a latched position and, simultaneously, the coil, short leg and offset cooperate to return the door to the closed position. In the second embodiment, the pin causes the second lower portion of the latch to flex relative to the first upper portion, and the cam lobe loads the leaf spring upon opening of the door. Upon release of the pin, the second lower portion of the latch returns to its original position under the force of the flexing member and the door returns to its original closed position under the influence of the leaf spring.
