ABSTRACT This invention relates to a video communication system which permits images obtained from video equipment such as a projector to be modified graphically as the images are being projected. The images are projected onto the lower surface of a screen through a dichroic crystal mirror. The screen is semi-transparent which permits the operator viewing the screen from above to view the images while preventing the operator's hand or writing instrument from being viewed from below. Various types of screen are disclosed but all are capable of permitting graphic information added to the upper surface of the screen by the operator to appear on the lower surface. For example, the screen may comprise a lower clear transparent screen spaced from an upper black semi-transparent screen, the intervening space being filled with translucent particles such as chalk. Pressure applied to the upper surface of the black screen causes a mark to appear on the lower surface of the clear screen. The modified images are fed back to the dichroic mirror to a storage, recording or reproduction system.
