The invention is a method and system for displaying a program, commercial or a promotional message to a viewer of a viewing appliance (30, 31). A method has steps of transmitting a television signal (14) such that a screen displays live or pre-recorded audio-visual programming and opening a visually distinct on-screen area displaying information that provides the viewer with a capability to interactively obtain selected information from an information provider (34) through a data communications network, such as the Internet (18), or to participate in an interactive application. The method implements steps of sending a first trigger from a server for prompting the viewer to select the on-screen area for displaying information during a program and if the viewer selects the on-screen area for display, then the server sends a second trigger to the viewing appliance for causing the viewing appliance to open the on-screen area.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant d'afficher un programme, un message publicitaire ou promotionnel pour l'utilisateur d'un appareil de visualisation (30, 31). Le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à transmettre un signal de télévision (14), de manière qu'un écran affiche une programmation en direct ou préenregistrée audio/visuelle; et à ouvrir une zone à l'écran visuellement distincte affichant des informations conférant à l'utilisateur la possibilité d'obtenir, de manière interactive, des informations sélectionnées à partir d'un fournisseur d'informations (34), via un réseau de communications de données, tel que l'Internet (18), ou de participer dans une application interactive. Le procédé met en oeuvre des étapes consistant à envoyer un premier signal de déclenchement à partir d'un serveur afin d'encourager l'utilisateur à choisir la zone à l'écran destinée à afficher des informations pendant un programme et si l'utilisateur choisit une telle zone, le serveur envoie un second signal de déclenchement à l'appareil de visualisation, de manière que celui-ci ouvre la zone à l'écran.
