An image processing method and apparatus comprise the steps of, and apparatus for, entry of original image data to be processed at a first point, determining neighbor data to be employed in the processing of the original image data in a first circuit or logic, entry of an image processing instruction at a second point, determining at least one image processing parameter and providing at least one image processing parameter from a second circuit or logic to the first circuit or logic, storing multiple sets of coefficients in a third circuit or logic, selecting a set of coefficients from among the multiple sets of coefficients for use in processing the original image data using a third point, and combining outputs from the first, second and thud circuits or logic in a fourth circuit or logic to produce processed image data.
