Abstract: The present invention relates to a video radiographic procedure for the quality control of welds. The weld seam is transilluminated, point by point, with X-ray or gamma ray radiation. Electrical signals representing the radio- graphic image of the weld and its environment are produced. The images are stored and displayed simultaneously. The invention is characterized in that two radiation sources of identical intensity are used. These two sources of radiation are pointed towards the weld seam at an angle. The sources of irradiation are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the weld and are symmetrical about the vertical axis. The target plate of a video camera is located symmetrically to the same vertical axis parallel to the longitudinal axis and the transverse axis of the weld. In such a way that the axes of the radiation sources lie in a common plane with the axes of the target plate. The first radiation source is operated in a pulse mode and radiographic still pictures are obtained and converted into electrical signals which are stored. The second radiation source is then operated in a pulse mode and each of the two memorized images is compared to a reference standard which has previously been obtained from a flawless weld having the same parameters.
