VIDEO SCANNING SYSTEM James C. Green Edwin A. Snyder Gilbert R. Woodman III ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a video scanning system, video camera coordinates of an image are converted to spatial coordinates of the imaged object using look-up tables. The loop-up tables allow determining the spatial coordinates for every point on the camera screen at high speed with sub-pixel resolution. The look-up tables are constructed by means of a zigzag-edged calibration fixture. The spatial coordinate system is referenced to the calibration fixture and to the video scanning system to avoid any physical measurements during calibration. The image point on each camera line is taken to be in the middle between two points at which the camera line signal crosses a threshold. The threshold is the peak value of the signal minus a preset, software settable value. Such threshold choice provides an accurate and stable estimate of the image point position.
