ABSTRACT A disposable video camera unit for use in surgical procedures comprises a sterile cable connector and sterile camera head. The camera head and cable is adapted for initial sterility and sterile packaging for subsequent singular use and is disposable after surgery. The camera head may consist of a charge-coupled device type of image sensor assembled in a compact camera head of a type that can be completely sterilised sealed and packaged for prolonged shelf storage and eventual disposal after use.
