In the case of a videophone system, it is known to vary the amount of light falling onto the target by a shutter, which is electronically controlled for a greater or lesser length during a short exposure time, rather than by means of a controlled mechanical aper- ture. It has been found that interference occurred when data reduction was used for the signal to be transmitted. In particular, macroblocks were also formed when no difference signal was present. The object is to develop such a videophone sys- tem such that interference of this type is avoided in the case of data reduction. The control circuit for the exposure time and the mains power supply which produces the ambient light are coupled by means of a PLL circuit in such a manner that the exposure time always occurs at the same phase of the mains voltage. In particular for a videophone system having an electronically controlled shutter and data reduction for the transmission.
