ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A viewing distance sensor for television receiver which can not have influence upon the remote control function over infra-red signals of other electronics equipments positioned in the periphery of television receiver and also can not be influenced by the infra-red signals transmitted from other electronic equipments. Since an infra-red signal is transmitted from the infra-red signal transmitter in the case of being determined a viewer to be positioned within the viewable distance from the front of television receiver, the false operation of other electronic equipments caused by the infra-red signal can be avoided. Also, since a control signal is not input to the screen controller of television in case the infra-red signals transmitted from other electronic equipments are received into the infra-red signal receiver in the television receiver, the false operation of the viewing distance sensor can be avoided.
