A process for the selective production of vinyl ester by the reaction of a carboxylic acid with acetylene with a homogeneous catalyst is disclosed and claimed. In a preferred embodiment of this invention, reaction of benzoic acid and acetylene in the presence of Group VIII metal complex catalyst at a temperature of about 50 to 1800C results in quantitative yields of vinyl benzoate.

L'invention porte sur un procédé pour la production sélective d'un ester vinylique par la réaction d'un acide carboxylique avec de l'acétylène avec un catalyseur homogène. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré de cette invention, la réaction d'acide benzoïque et d'acétylène en présence d'un catalyseur complexe de métal du groupe VIII à une température d'environ 50 à 180°C conduit à des rendements quantitatifs de production de benzoate de vinyle.
