A method and apparatus are disclosed for using virtual reality for testing and quantifying visual information from the eye, the visual pathways, and the brain. Headgear configuration (12) allows the patient to observe a field of view (7, 11) into which sequenced test stimuli are presented by an excitation device commanded by a computer (13). Interactive sensory (15, 16, 17) feedback both to and from the patient enables computer-driven presentation and modulation of test stimuli to measure with precision such parameters as visual field performance, visual acuity, and color vision. Using the system (5) allows the patient unprecedented freedom of movement of the head and body, thus minimizing or even eliminating the stress and fatigue common with conventional non-virtual reality visual field testing systems.
Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant d'utiliser la réalité virtuelle pour mesurer et quantifier des informations visuelles en provenance de l'oeil, du système visuel et du cerveau. Une structure de type casque (12) permet au patient d'observer un champ visuel (7, 11) à l'intérieur duquel des signaux tests d'excitation en séquence sont présentés par un dispositif d'excitation commandé par un ordinateur (13). Une rétroaction sensorielle interactive (15, 16, 17) émanant du patient permet une présentation commandée par ordinateur ainsi qu'une modulation des signaux tests d'excitation en vue de la mesure précise de certains paramètres représentatifs du champ visuel, de l'acuité visuelle et de la perception des couleurs. L'utilisation de ce système (5) procure au patient une liberté de mouvement de la tête et du corps sans précédent, ce qui permet de minimiser et même de supprimer la tension et la fatigue ressenties avec les systèmes de mesure du champ visuel n'utilisant pas la réalité virtuelle.
