A visible safety light is herein described. The safety light comprises a laser mounted within a housing arranged to project a visible line of light. In use, the housing is mounted onto a mobile machine such that the line is projected downward onto the floor. As a result of this arrangement, a visible line of light is produced in front of the mobile machine while the mobile machine is at rest or in motion. This in turn provides a warning that the mobile machine is approaching and also which direction the mobile machine is travelling in, even in brightly lit or daylight conditions.
