ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention involves a method of making a gas- impervious container for the hot isostatic compaction of particulate material into an article of intricate config- uration. It comprises providing a removable pattern in the appropriate precompaction configuration of the article to be produced, forming a shell of vitreous frit on the pattern, heating the shell to effect vitrification thereof, and coating the vitreous shell with a layer of metallic material to form a gas-impervious metallic shell around the vitreous shell. The pattern may be removed at any time after formation of the shell of vitreous frit. The gas-impervious container thus produced is well-suited for use in hot isostatic compaction processes wherein dense articles of complex shape, such as gas turbine engine components, are produced from superalloy powders. -1-
