ABSTRACT A voice prosthesis device (10) to be worn in a fistula communicating between the trachea and esophagus of the wearer includes a housing (11) having an air inlet port (21) opening into the trachea and an air outlet port (17) opening into the esophagus, and a one-way check valve (18,20) positioned between the inlet and outlet ports, the check valve including a valve seat (18) within the housing and a membrane-like flap (20) adapted to close against the valve seat and prevent flow of esophageal contents from the esophagus into the trachea, the flap having a relatively small integral projection (22) on its periphery which is anchored to the housing whereby the flap is hinged along the line whereat the projection integrally interconnects with the flap.
