Le capteur est monté à l'intérieur d'un blindage et comporte un adapteur destiné à relier la borne d'entrée d'un transformateur de courant à la prise capacitive d'une traversée d'une pièce d'équipement à haute tension. Un circuit de mesure reproduit fidèlement la tension présente à la prise capacitive et dans une plage de fréquence qui s'étend d'environ 1 Hz à environ 1 MHz avec un niveau de signal considérablement plus haut que le bruit de fond.
