A VSB mode detection circuit (22) with a comb filter (20) solves the potential problem of lockout in a situation where a VSB mode signal is being received, with the comb filter being effective, and a change in signal mode suddenly occurs. The arrangement inhibits the first two bytes of the three byte mode information, which two bytes are unspecified for all except the 8 VSB terrestrial mode, and replaces them with zero data. In another embodiment, the 12 symbol delay in the comb filter is bypassed with the complement of the input data for the third byte. When the 8 VSB terrestrial mode has been confidently determined to exist, the inhibition of the first and second bytes (and the inversion of the bypassed third byte) is removed in alternate fields to permit normal comb filter operation.
La présente invention concerne un circuit de détection du mode bande latérale résiduelle (22) équipé d'un filtre en peigne (20). Ce circuit permet de résoudre le problème d'un éventuel blocage dans les cas où la réception du signal se fait en mode bande latérale résiduelle, le filtre en peigne étant en fonction, et qu'intervient de façon soudaine une modification du mode du signal. Ce montage a pour effet d'interdire les deux premiers octets des trois octets de l'information de mode, ces deux octets n'étant pas spécifiés dans tous les cas (à l'exception du mode terrestre 8 à bande latérale résiduelle) et étant remplacés par des données à zéro. Selon une autre réalisation, on saute le délai de 12 symboles dans le filtre en peigne, mettant le complément des données d'entrée dans le troisième octet. Lorsqu'il a été établi avec certitude que le mode terrestre 8 à bande latérale résiduelle est en place, l'interdiction des premier et deuxième octets (et l'inversion du troisième octet sauté) disparaît une zone sur deux de façon à permettre le fonctionnement du filtre en peigne.
