ABSTRACT A one-piece wad for shotgun cartridges is formed of synthetic plas- tics material and has a shot pouch and an overcharge wad separated by an even number of support pillars capable under load of bending inwardly regularly and uniformly to provide substantially no torsional effect between the overcharge wad and the shot pouch. The support pillars are located on the upper surface of the overcharge wad and the underside of the shot pouch with one edge of half the number of the support pillars adjacent to one of two mutually perpen- dicular major axes, and one edge of the other half of the number of support pillars adjacent the other of the two mutually perpendicular axes, which major axes intersect at the geometric centre of the overcharge wad and the shot pouch, The pillars act as a cushion between the overcharge wad and the shot pouch thus preventing distortion, breaking or cracking of said overcharge wad when the cartridge is fired.
