The present invention provides a mounting assembly for pictures and the like, comprising a mounting assembly for attachment of an object to a support surface, the mounting assembly comprising a pair of spaced anchors for attaching the mounting assembly to the support surface; a rod extending between the pair of spaced anchors; a first and a second shoe for holding the object therebetween, each shoe attached to the rod and moveable independently along the length thereof; and a means for locking the first shoe at a desired location along the length of the rod.
