A wall panel system comprises a plurality of transversely extending panel elements having opposed longitudinal edges in abutting relationship with adjacent panel elements. The longitudinal edges of the adjacent panel elements have edge profiles which together define the elongate slotted channel. A channel section is fitted within the elongated slotted channel to align and reinforce the panel elements and at the same time provido a means for removably supporting mounting brackets. A variety of items can be mounted to the wall panel system by engagement with the elongate channel. The wall panel system is easily assembled and is efficient in the utilisation of materials.
