wallpaper comprises a coating layer (2) containing latex binder and pigment on top of a base paper (1). The coating layer (2) contains a surface coating (PP) containing pigment and latex binder and its amount is at least 20 g/m2 as dry matter. The total amount of the coating layer (2) is at least 30 g/m2 as dry matter. The surface coating (PP) contains at least 30-70 parts of the latex binder per 100 parts of a water- insoluble pigment, whereof the amount of a water-insoluble inorganic mineral pigment is at least 40 wt-%. The wallpaper has essentially the same external properties as an ordinary PVC coated wallpaper and improved printing and embossing properties.
