ABSTRACT In the transfer of goods between a warehouse and a transport vehicle, it is common to use pallet-lifting machines that enter the transport vehicle when it is parked abutting a loading dock at the warehouse. There is a danger inherent in the procedure in that it is possible for the vehicle to pull away from the loading dock without warning to the operators of the pallet-lifting machines. A pallet-lifter caught by the pulling away of a transport trailer may be injured within the moving vehicle or he may fall from the vehicle or loading dock. In this invention, a warehouse loading dock safety system comprised of an interior barrier and exterior signal light is used to prevent pallet-lifter operators and others from entering the transport trailer upon activation of the safety system by a warehouse operator, while simultaneously signalling to the driver of the transport trailer vehicle that it is clear to pull away from the loading dock.
