WARM SLUDGE DIGESTION WITH OXYGEN Abstract of the Disclosure The application discloses an activated sludge system in which wastewater is treated in a covered aeration zone and sludge is treated in a covered digestion zone, gas (1st) fed to the aeration is at least 40% 02, the liquor temperature is at least 15°C, and the off-gas has no more than 40% of the total 02 fed to the digestion. The feed g-8 to digestion is at least 80% 02, the DO at least 2 mg/l, the sludge solids at least 15,000 mg/l, the sludge temperature at least 25°D and at least 10°C warmer than the aeration liquor but below 75°C. at least 60% of the biodegradables are oxidized and the at least 40% 02 vent gas has at least 35% of the 02 content of the gas fed to digestion. The vent gas is fed to the aeration as at least the major part of the 1st gas. S P E C I F I C A T I O N 1.
