A block header for an automotive engine has an externally threaded nipple portion and an outer end portion with a diameter greater than the nipple portion. First and second raised and spaced apart ribs are concentric with the nipple portion on the shoulder of the outer end portion. The ribs become compressed against the wall of an engine block when the block heater is installed, to form a damping seal therewith.
