A B S T R A C T A method for the disposal of an aqueous liquid waste material comprises bringing the liquid waste material into contact with the upper part of a heap of inorganic waste material such as weathered clay or chalk marl contained in a substantially water-impervious basin together with water recycled from the lower part of the basin, preferably at the same time as fresh solid waste material is discharged therein.
