A process for removing contaminants from a waste gas stream comprises treating the waste gas stream to remove at least one of SO2 and NOx and to obtain a lean stream having a reduced level of at least one of SO2 and NOx and, contacting the lean gas stream with a mercury absorbent solution comprising permanganate to remove mercury vapour and to obtain a mercury lean stream and a mercury rich absorbent solution. The mercury rich absorbent solution may be subsequently treated on a batch basis to remove precipitated manganese dioxide and obtain a solution containing mercury ions.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'élimination de contaminants d'un flux de gaz usagés, comprenant le traitement du flux de gaz usagés pour éliminer au moins un élément parmi SO2 et NOx et obtenir un flux appauvri présentant une teneur réduite en au moins un élément parmi SO2 et NOx, et la mise en contact du flux gazeux appauvri avec une solution absorbante de mercure comprenant du permanganate, de manière à éliminer les vapeurs de mercure et à obtenir un flux appauvri en mercure et une solution absorbante riche en mercure. La solution absorbante riche en mercure peut par la suite être traitée, par un procédé de type discontinu, pour éliminer le dioxyde de manganèse précipité et obtenir une solution contenant des ions mercure.
