ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved pneumatic device for separating paper, rags and similar light waste materials from an aggregate composed primarily of shredded metallic scrap. The unseparated aggregate is discharged downwardly on an inclined, stepped ramplike separating surface to cause the aggregate to tumble over. Air jets, exhausting from slits provided in the separating surface, blow the light materials off while the metallic scrap cascades on down the ramplike surface. An air stream moving substantially opposite the flow direction of the metallic scrap is provided which whisks the light materials to a collection device.
