A method of manufacturing a water barrier fabric, in flexible or rigid form, and article manufactured thereby, formed by dispersing a water-absorbent material, in powdered or granular form, among a mass of fibers during the formation of a loose mat of said fibers, to homogeneously disperse the powdered or granular water-absorbent material above, below and on each side of the fibers forming the mat, and thereafter densifying and structurally consolidating the mat, to secure the fibers in position surrounding and entrapping the water-absorbent material, such as by sewing, quilting, needle punching or otherwise bonding the fibers into a consolidated, structurally secure fabric at least partially filled with the powdered or granular water-absorbent material.
La présente invention vise une méthode de fabrication d'une étoffe imperméable à l'eau, tantôt rigide tantôt flexible, et d'articles de série ainsi fabriqués. La méthode de fabrication consiste à disperser une matière absorbant l'eau, de forme pulvérulente ou granulaire, dans une masse de fibres pendant la formation d'une natte lâche composée de ces fibres, à répandre la matière pulvérulente ou granulaire absorbant l'eau au-dessus, au-dessous et de chaque côté des fibres constituant la natte et, par la suite, à accroître la densité et à consolider la structure de cette natte, à maintenir en place les fibres intégrées ou entourant la matière absorbant l'eau par une opération de couture, de matelassage, de liage mécanique ou d'autres modes de liaisonnement des fibres pour en faire une étoffe solide à structure renforcée constituée au moins en partie de matières granulaires ou pulvérulentes absorbant l'eau.
