A method for preparing an environmentally safe composition free of chlorinated solvents which is non-flammable, fully biodegradable, and low odor and the use of such composition for the removal of various coatings from metal substrates. The composition comprises a water-based mixture of one or more high boiling, high flash aromatic solvent(s), a peroxide generating agent, and a hydroxycarboxylic acid. It can be prepared as a liquid and used as such for immersion/dipping operations or as a thick paste "cling type" material when optimal application requires a thin film. These can be applied by spraying or brushing.
L'invention concerne une procédé de préparation d'une composition écologiquement sûre, dépourvue de solvants chlorés, non inflammable, entièrement biodégradable et de faible odeur, ainsi que l'utilisation de cette composition pour éliminer divers revêtements sur des substrats métalliques. La composition comprend un mélange aqueux constitué d'un ou plusieurs solvants aromatiques à haut point d'ébullition et point d'éclair élevé, un agent de génération de peroxyde, et un acide hydroxycarboxylique. La composition peut être préparée sous la forme d'un liquide utilisable comme tel dans des applications par immersion/trempage, ou sous la forme d'une matière "adhésive" à pâte épaisse pour une application optimale nécessitant un film mince. Le produit peut être appliqué par pulvérisation ou brossage.
