ABSTRACT A water-based paint composition capable of forming a protective coating by application to a ferrous substrate followed by drying at ambient temperature comprising (a) an aqueous latex or dispersion of a film-forming polymer consisting essentially of units derived from one or more mono-ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing a single vinyl or vinylidene group and (b) a corrosion-inhibiting pigment, the pH of the said composition being in the range from 3.0 to 6.5.
